“There’s No Where Else To Equal It”

How a trip to the Cistern Chapel amazes even the most seasoned traveller.

Rhonda James of Mooloolaba is a seasoned international traveller but she was almost lost for words when she emerged from the Cistern Chapel. She was in Maryborough visiting her friend Lisa Fogarty and had no inkling where she was being taken when they walked across Chifley Place to the public toilets.

“This is the most amazing thing. There’s nowhere else to equal it,” said Rhonda when she emerged. She said she had seen many sights overseas, including the grand Czar palaces in Russia, “but I have never seen anything as spectacular.”

It was also a first visit to the Cistern Chapel for Lisa, who has been living in Maryborough for a few years but had not popped in to see what the fuss was all about. She was pleasantly surprised and impressed by the cleanliness of the public toilets, reckoned to be the best in Australia. A Cistern Chapel team will be part of the Wide Bay Region Promotion Night at Parliament House in Brisbane on Thursday evening, charged with acquainting State politicians with what is arguably one of the most talked about tourist attractions in Queensland.
