A Library & A Bookshop - For The Love Of Books

Maryborough’s library on Bazaar Street is a treasure trove of learning, entertainment and connection right in the heart of town and just around the corner from a new smorgasbord for book lovers.

The No. 17 Bookshop is a mesmerising collection of more than 15,000 books – some new, most pre-loved – stacked in nooks and crannies abutting rare DVDs, LPs, musical scores and chess boards inviting browsers to play. It is a salute to the city’s Mary Poppins book-loving legacy: the magical nanny lives at No. 17 Cherry Tree Lane.

Roaming through the bookcases, settling on a couch or just soaking up the atmosphere in the spacious old theatre is an experience to be savoured. Regular talks with authors are arranged.

Number 17 – tagged as ‘more than a bookstore’ – is open Thursday to Saturday 10am to 2pm at 72 Ellena Street.

Books are balanced with solving the mysteries of modern tech at the nearby library, where free sessions on basic technology and cyber security are here to save the day.
