The museum is open Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 9am to 1pm. The ornate façade rises to face the City Hall and hints at the lofty ceilings inside the two-storey building.
Minerva, the Roman Goddess of Wisdom, dominates the entrance with a compelling stare and signals the emphasis placed on learning and appreciation of the arts in 19th Century Maryborough.
Almost 130 years ago the Sydney Mail referred to the majestic building as ‘the lion of Maryborough’ and the finest institute of its kind – internally and externally – beyond Brisbane in Queensland.
